Jazz in Downtown Wooster
The 2011 Wooster Arts Jazz Fest
Downtown Wooster will be swinging with the sounds of live jazz as the Wooster Arts Jazz Fest rolls into town. The fest will provide non-stop live musical performances from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17th, 2011 on the square in downtown Wooster. This year’s lineup of musicians is sure to please music lovers, and especially those who love jazz, swing, big-band, zydeco, and more.
The live music will begin at 11 a.m. in the gazebo when Mo’ Mojo gets the party started. Voted Akron’s best “jam band,” Mo’ Mojo adds Cajun melodies to blues sounds from all over the south. The band specializes in playing a mix of zydeco (a form of American folk music that originated in Louisiana in the 19th century), blues, Cajun, and Mardi Gras style beats.
The Akron Big Band will take to the main stage from noon-1:30 p.m. Founded 50 years ago, The Akron Big Band’s mission is to create new memories for the young and bring back the good old memories for older generations.
The River City Dixieland Band will hit the gazebo at 1:30 p.m. As a mainstay of the Wooster Arts Jazz Fest, the band will lead the New Orleans style parade through the streets of downtown, departing from the gazebo, at 2.30 p.m.
Next up in the gazebo, a band that includes musicians from Wooster and Wayne County will delight the crowd with music from the American Songbook. Standard Time specializes in playing well-loved classic favorites from Gershwin to Ellington, and Berlin to Bacharach.
The Akron Big Band will perform once more from 4:30-6 p.m. on the main stage. The Ron Busch Quartet will perform in the gazebo from 6-7 p.m. In addition, acoustic guitarist Victor Samalot will be serenading festival goers as a strolling musician. |
