Call For Artists

The 2011 Wooster Arts Jazz Fest, a growing juried fine arts festival in historic downtown Wooster, is currently accepting applications from artists interested in participating in this year’s festival. The Wooster Arts Jazz Fest will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the square in Wooster.

The deadline for artist applications is June 15, 2011. Artists will be notified of acceptance July 13, 2011.

In its eighth year, this event is free and open to the public, and will feature more than 100 artists, along with free children’s activities, live musical entertainment, a traditional New Orleans-style parade, and a mouth-watering selection of gourmet food provided by local restaurants.

All artists may register online by visiting the Juried Art Services (JAS) website at www.juriedartservices.com or artists may fill out the artist prospectus and mail it to Wooster Arts Jazz Fest, 377 W. Liberty Street, Wooster, OH 44691. Entries must be postmarked by June 15, 2011.

JAS offers digital jurying services to museums, craft shows, and art festivals. It starts with the online application system, which allows applicants create an account in the portfolio management system and apply to shows online.

Artists may enter a variety of media, including: ceramics, digital art, drawing, enamel, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, paper, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood. All work exhibited must be the original work of the artists.

Awards for artists will be judged by independent, on-site jurors beginning at 11 a.m., and ribbons will be awarded at 2 p.m. Best of show will be awarded $600, Best Booth will receive $175, and seven Juror’s Awards of $175 each will also be awarded.

Services to artists will include both sitters, a hospitality area with refreshments, a regional marketing campaign, a program and map including artists’ names and booth space, and free promotional postcards that will be available in advance to artists.

This fine arts festival is presented through a partnership of the Main Street Wooster Inc., the Rotary Club of Wooster, the Wayne Center for the Arts and the Wooster City Schools.
